An intimate tango immersion in which we'll build your knowledge, integrate it into your dancing, and deepen your tango culture - and confidence - in Buenos Aires!


Limited to three couples.

Be part of my tango life in Buenos Aires and we'll go deep into tango musicality learning!

After this Buenos Aires immersion in study, milongas, and Porteño life, you’ll never again have to ask, "But how do you dance to that?” 

We'll develop your theoretical knowledge and then integrate it into your dancing with hours of guided practice, using my precisely-engineered audio tools. You'll become a better dancer, feel more confident on the dance floor, and know how to give your partners beautiful tandas. For married couples and life partners, we'll focus on cultivating a more fulfilling experience of dancing together.

My expert colleagues and I will guide you to experience the rich culture and tango life of Buenos Aires so that you'll start to love it and feel a part of it, as we do.

            Study & practice

            • Daily lessons with me in tango musicality theory and practice, with a lot of focus on improvisational exploration.

            • We'll use my process of “deliberate practice” to develop your musicality skills, using the special audio clips I created for you in Tango Musicality Mojo to make tango practice focused, effective, and fun!

            • My colleague Beto Barsellini will co-host at milongas, providing guidance and helping you feel at home. As we get to know you better, Beto and I will plan your milonga itinerary and take turns accompanying you.

            • I’ll arrange special lessons for you with Beto or other guest instructors, according to your needs. 

            • We'll customize our Cultural Tourism program for this small group's interests. (Scroll down to Discover Tango section near the end.)

                      Milongas

                      • Beto and I will take turns being your milonga hosts. Whether you are an intermediate dancer or quite advanced, we’ll select milongas that are right for you, and you'll be sure to dance.  
                         
                      • In case you don’t feel ready yet to attend Buenos Aires milongas, we will take you to practicas to dance and milongas to watch!

                      February 2024 BA Musicality Retreat

                      • TMM BA Gold - 10 days of classes, 3 hours of training per day
                        • Individual $6,400 USD. Couple $9,600 USD 
                           


                      Your program includes:
                       

                      ✔ Accompaniment and admission to 6 scheduled milongas per week (Beto or Helaine)

                       

                      ✔ Lodgings at tango guest house (custom requests may require price modification)

                       

                      ✔ A rich program of cultural & touristic activities (see DiscoverTango section below)

                      ✔ Airport/hotel transfers 

                      ✔ 90-minute, "Welcome to Buenos Aires" orientation and Q&A with Johanna of Discover Tango.

                       

                      ✔  Currency exchange services through my tourism colleagues. 

                      ✔ On non-class days, we can do some fun things together, like Helaine's favorite: informal, live music experiences, when available. You can explore Buenos Aires on your own, just rest, or schedule activities with DiscoverTango (see below).


                      ❌ The above tango program fees EXCLUDE airfare, taxis, meals, and beverages, medical costs (travel medical insurance is recommended).

                        • We recommend that you arrive a day or two early to rest and get comfortable, and we'll welcome you.

                      Prerequisites

                       

                      • For TMM members, I encourage you to complete at least Phase 1 of Tango Musicality Mojo by February, though it's not mandatory. You should at least be familiar with the concepts, terms, and tools in Phase 1, so we are all speaking the same language. This includes the "About You" Questionnaire at the beginning of your course.. 
                         
                      • For everyone, a conversation with me by Zoom or phone, so I can answer your questions, hear any special requests, and get to know you better. See "Next Steps" below.

                       

                      Cultural & Touristic Activities

                      organized and led by Johanna and David of “Discover Tango”

                      I am proud to introduce you to Johanna & David, whom I’ve invited to provide the most authentic, competent, and warm hospitality and cultural tango tourism experience I could imagine!

                      • Tango history night with video, historian, tapas & wine 
                      • Tango shopping (shoes, clothes, etc.) 
                      • Day in San Telmo neighborhood
                      • Visit to La Boca - Caminito (famous tourist area), Fundacion Proa contemporary art museum 
                      • Day in Tigre (25 km. from the city) with boat ride on Tigre Delta 
                      • Tour of renowned Teatro Colon followed by picnic lunch 
                      • Full day visit to an Estancia (ranch), 150 km from the city - Outdoor activities in beautiful nature, canoeing on a big lake, horseback riding, swimming pool.  
                      • Argentine wine tasting with tapas 
                      • Empanada cooking class
                      • Chacarera class 
                      • Dinner at a musician’s home with live duo and asado

                      Private transportation is included for many of these events. 
                      Special interest requests are welcome.
